The mystery is over: Telstra opens up the floodgates on the ‘superphone’ LG claims is the “best Android handset ever”

The telco is kicking off pre-orders today for the LG ‘Optimus G’ on Android, which can be bought online/instore from 12 March.
Telstra is selling LG Optimus G ‘Superphone’ on $60, for $0 upfront (1GB data + $600 calls/MMS) there’s also $80 (1.5GB + $800), 100 ($900 2GB) and $120 (3GB + unlimited calls) plans. The smartphone will be sold at Telstra only.
So what’s so super about Optimus G I hear you cry?
4.7-inch HD screen, 4G, 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 13MP rear camera and runs Android 4.1 Jelly bean, and New user experiences QuickMemo, QSlide, Dual Screen/Dual Play, and a high-density 2,100mAh battery.
But its not the only phone that is claiming to be these best-est ever – HTC unveiled a stunning One smartphone last week, there’s a new Samsung Galaxy IV on the way (and possibly even a Huawei P2 which claims to be world’s fastest phone), it should make for interesting times in the mobile market.

“Optimus G has generated a tremendous amount of positive interest,” claims Jonathan Banks, LG’s new Head of Mobile Communications.
“We believe this is simply the greatest Android handset to arrive in Australia to date.”
But in case demand isn’t forth coming Telstra and LG are are giving it an extra push, offering all those who pre-order online a chance to win the “ultimate” $25,000 Australian F1 Grand Prix experience with flights and accommodation to Melbourne for 2 people, Friday Paddock Club pass, pit lane walk, a hot-lap in a 2 seater F1 car, grandstand passes for Saturday and Sunday, and $1,000 to spend.
