ABC’s catch up TV service can now be viewed on Apple’s iPhone via the new iView app.

iView allows you to watch programs from ABC including 1, ABC2, ABC3, ABC4Kids, the ABC News 24 live stream and iView exclusives.

ABC app also offers live streaming of ABC News 24 and you can also share content on Facebook.

So, you to watch any programme you’ve missed- from 7.30 Report, Gavin and Stacey or the new series “Dumb, Drunk and Racist’ from the comfort of your smartphone.

This follows the release of iView iPad app in December 2010 and the general ABC iPhone app was first released in ’09.

“ABC iView was one of the important first steps in the evolution of ABC TV’s content offering. It provides choice in terms of what people watch, when they watch it and on what device, said Kim Dalton, Director of ABC TV.

ABC iView on iPhone has been the most requested service since the launch of iView on iPad, Dalton noted.

The iView app can also be accessed from iPod Touch devices.

“The universal app is an innovative response to changing audience behaviour, preparing for the future and for the explosive growth of the mobile internet.”

So what about iVew for Androids? It’s not here yet but ABC are promising its on the ‘to do’ list.

“We understand the demand for an Android app, and are working towards achieving official Android support following a planned redevelopment of iView in HTML5,” Bruce Collier, ABC iView, told ABC Technology.

But there have been issues associated with the green man including: “the cost, technical effort and resources required to support Android, given its complex eco-system. “

We will be focussing our attention on better platform support across the board, meaning lesser used platforms like Windows may also get a look in on ABC soon.

Currently, Apple’s devices are the dominant devices using ABC apps, with its main iPhone app has been downloaded over 2 million times, and iView app for iPad a massive 970,000 downloads.

The Android app has been downloaded considerably less – just 75,000 times.
