ABC has released its flagship ABC app for Android tablets at last, with new interactive magazine ‘The Brief’ launching earlier this month on Android phones and coming to Windows Phone in August.
ABC has launched new apps for Android tablets, Android phones and is launching a new app for Windows Phones in August.
Its flagship ‘ABC app’, which is already available for iPhones, iPads and Android phones, has just been released as a dedicated Android tablet app for the first time.
Version 3.2 of the ‘ABC app’ is available from today, and includes better readability of articles, smoother swiping between sections and streaming of TV and radio programmes on mobile networks as well as Wi-Fi, with streaming able to be restricted to Wi-Fi only is desired.
This follows the launch of the ABC’s new app ‘The Brief’, which the ABC says invites you to experience its stories “in a new way”, covering “news, entertainment, technology, health and more”, published every Friday afternoon and working on iPads with iOS 6 and above, and Android tablets with OS 4.1 and above.
Angela Clark, the ABC’s Director of Innovation said: “We’ve been focusing on improving our mobile experiences and exploring new territory with innovative content experiments like ‘The Brief’. In today’s release of Version 3.2 for our Flagship Apps it’s the first time we’ve had a version for Android tablets.”
Ms Clark added that: “It’s been a big year for smartphones and tablets and in addition to the proliferation of devices across all age groups we are also seeing an increased frequency of use of our apps, in the past three months alone monthly visits are up over 30% compared to last year.
“It’s Australian’s obsession with keeping up to date with news and current affairs via their smartphones and tablets that is the primary driver.”
