Acer is rolling out updated versions of its Nitro 5 gaming notebook and the thin and lightweight Swift 3 with 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen Mobile Processors with Radeon Vega Graphics. Pricing and availability to be confirmed.

Whether this move to AMD is related to Intel’s chip storage is unclear.

The 15.6-inch Nitro 5 still boasts a Full HD 1080p display with 144Hz refresh rate and CoolBoost tech, but now with thinner bezels for a greater screen to body ratio.

Inside it houses a 2.3GHz quad-core Ryzen 7 3750H CPU with a maximum clock speed of 4.3GHz and a dedicated Radeon RX 560X GPU.

The updated 14-inch Swift 3 is powered by a less powerful quad-core 2.3GHz Ryzen 7 3700U with embedded Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics.

Consumers can upgrade to Radeon RX 540X for improved video editing and gaming — compared to the MX150 on the Intel version.

It has a 14-inch IPS, Full HD 180-degree folding display with thin bezels and measures 0.71-inch thick and weighs in at only 1.5kg.

Acer claims the power consumption of the new chips should provide all-day battery life for the new Swift 3.

Updating two popular models with cheaper chips before the top of the line versions (Swift 7 and Nitro 7) hit the market may help solidify Acer’s position in the market.

Especially as Acer are covering the gaming and general consumer ends with these two models.

Acer has not revealed the specific configurations, pricing or release dates for the new notebooks.

Both models will be on display at Acer’s showcase at Computex 2019 in Taipei from May 28 to June 2 2019.
