Acer has released a BIG black and white Chromebook that’s reminiscent of the old black Apple MacBook, the 15″ device the biggest one you can buy to date, was released at CES.
Oozing high quality materials the new Chromebook is tipped to go on sale shortly in Australia, lighter than current model devices and highly and durable the black plastic appears to be seriously ruggedized.
A mesh-style pattern on the back gives the device a quality look compared to what is on offer from the likes of Toshiba and Hewlett Packard.
The Acer Chromebook 15 is the company’s first Chromebook with a choice of the 5th Generation Intel Core i3 or the next generation Intel Celeron processor with the 5th Generation Core microarchitecture.
The display comes in two versions. The full HD display has a 1920×1080 resolution that ensures sharp and legible text as well as vivid, clear videos and photos.
The second choice is an HD 1366×768 resolution display for budget-minded customers. Both options are Acer ComfyView displays with anti-glare properties to minimize the amount of reflecting light to reduce eye strain.
Acer claims that even with these new larger screens and faster processors the Chromebook 15 will deliver superior battery life.
The device also comes with fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port and HDMI port.
The new Acer Chromebook 15 also comes with a white fabric-like surface that’s meant to ensure a secure grip. It’s also been reinforced to handle bumps and drops. Acer claims that the case can withstand up to 60kg of force, while the corners can tolerate up to 45cm drops without damage.
The Verge said of the device ‘The keyboard’s chiclet keys are responsive and have a good action to them, and the trackpad was similarly impressive. There’s room to navigate both comfortably – it’s not as cramped as Acer’s 13- and 11-inch competitors tend to be. The model we got to look at had a 1366×768 screen that is good but not great (the company will be offering a 1080p version), and Acer takes advantage of the extra real estate afforded by the 15-inch build by lining the keyboard with stereo speakers.
Tipped to sell for sub $325 Acer’s new Chromebook 15 one of the best new options around.
