Acer claimed that it will overtake Hewlett-Packard to become the number one PC maker by the end of this year.Acer expects revenue in the third quarter to rise 10-15 percent from the second quarter as the company is performing better than expected in some countries, chairman J.T. Wang told shareholders at a meeting.
“We have responded faster than our competitors to the demand in the market,” Wang said. “We are one of a very few that was able to respond to the market when demand stabilised in the latter part of the second quarter because we were prepared.”
Wang believes expects Acer’s PC shipments could rise as much as 50 percent this year. The company overtook H-P as the world’s biggest supplier of notebook PCs in the first quarter, shipping 9.49 million units, compared with H-P’s 9.47 million units, according to Gartner figures.
