High-def movies on the go are now possible with the Australian launch of Acer’s dual core HD DVD notebook PC, Aspire 5675WLMi.
According to Acer, it will be the first locally available HD DVD notebook “just,” said Acer spokesperson, Sheree Fromholtz. “We are planning to be instore at the end of May, whereas I believe Toshiba’s [HD DVD notebook] won’t be available till June – so in that manner, it will be the first Australian HD DVD notebook.”
The new Aspire is powered by the Intel T2600 2.16 Ghz Dual Core processor, ATI Radeon X1600 512 MB graphics card and has 2 GB system memory.
Features include a 15.4 inch widescreen display, an inbuilt rotating 1.3 megapixel camera 100 GB hard drive, dual layer DVD super multi burner, 5-in-1 card reader and a Bluetooth VoIP phone.
Acer’s Lindsay Tobin said Acer’s ability to quickly implement new technologies, such as HD DVD, is a result of its supply chain model and successful ‘go to market’ strategy.
“The nature of Acer’s business model means that we can upgrade existing notebooks or desktops to feature new technology and deliver this in-store to customers within two weeks. It’s our flexibility in delivering the freshest technology to our customers that will lead Acer into the number one notebook position in Australia,” he said.
The Acer Aspire 5675WLMi is available only in Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse stores.
