Alcatel has moved to tighten its grip on the budget-friendly end of the Australian smartphone market amid increased competition, announcing pricing and availability for their U3 and U5 handsets.
“We are passionate about delivering well-designed, feature-rich phones that don’t break the bank, especially when purchasing your very first phone,” said David Vieira, Product and Marketing Director, Alcatel Mobile.
“With the launch of the U3 and U5, we are continuing our mission to make smartphone technology more affordable, accessible, and fun for young Australians.”
Priced at just $79, the U3 offers up a 4-inch display, a 1.1GHz Quad Core Processor, runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0, a 5MP rear camera with LED Flash, front-facing 1.3MP camera (again with LED Flash) and 8GB internal memory (expandable to 32GB with a microSD card).
It’ll be available in ‘Cocoa Grey’ through Vodafone from August at an RRP of $79.
The U3 comes accompanied by the slightly-more upmarket U5, which features a more ergonomic body and slim curved edges.
In terms of specs, the 5-inch U5 offers up a pretty similar package. It’s got a 1.1GHz Quad Core Processor, runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 and 8GB internal memory (which, like the U3, is expandable to 32GB via microSD).
Alcatel say “the Alcatel U5 takes the selfie experience one step further by offering a suite of apps that enables users to personalise their selfies in new and exciting ways, such as Face Mask and Face Show. These apps are complemented by a flattering front LED flash for brighter selfies by day and night, as well as a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front facing camera.”
