Forget about giving children toys like Barbie or Transformers this Christmas – all they probably want is a new iPad. A survey conducted by Nielsen revealed that 31 percent of American kids ages 6-12 are interested in purchasing the iPad in the next six months.

Apple’s iPod Touch as well as a computer are tied for second on the list, while the Nintendo DS portable gaming console comes third.
For the rest of US consumers, Nielsen found that 20 percent of people aged 13+ want a computer, while 19 percent want TV or smartphone. However, 18 percent of the 13+ population are also eyeing an iPad for the holidays. Also hot on the list are Blu-ray players, E-readers, Nintendo Wii consoles and iPhones.
“Given the continued pressure on consumer spending, it is difficult to know how robust a holiday season this will be for tech devices, but this survey suggests the electronics aisle will be heavily traveled this season,” said the company.
