Amazon is expanding their reach across the consumer market with the launch of Amazon Prime Music, a music streaming now available to all new and existing Prime members in Australia, at no additional cost to their membership, and a threat to the recent Stan and eBay deal, Spotify, Google Play Music, and other streaming services.
The news comes just a few months after launching their Prime membership in Australia and could be a potential draw to the program that already offers free delivery on eligible local and international items, access to Prime Original series and other movies and TV shows with Prime Video, e-books with Prime Reading, and Twitch Prime for gaming and more.
With Prime Music, listeners can stream a catalogue of more than two million songs and hundreds of hand-curated playlists and stations, ad-free and on-demand with unlimited skips.
Streaming has become the primary way we consume content and all the streaming services we subscribe to tend to add up over time.
Spotify Premium and Google Play Music will set you back $11.99/mo, YouTube Premium costs $14.99/mo, Apple Music rocks in at $9.99/mo, and Netflix is priced from $9.99-$17.99/mo.
Amazon Prime has already combined many of the services that these other brands provide (and more) and are currently priced at $4.99/mo (until Jan 31, 2019, $6.99 thereafter) or $59 for the entire year.
Prime members are also able to upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited, Amazon Music’s premium streaming tier with a catalogue of more than 50 million tracks for a monthly or annual subscription, separate to a Prime subscription. Starts at $7.99/mo after 30-day free trial for new subscribers.
With music listening powered by Alexa, Prime Members can also experience music streaming by simply asking Alexa to “play music,” and whatever genre or artist they are interested in, no searching or browsing required.
Playlists, albums, and more can be saved for offline playback on mobile devices.
To experience Prime Music, download the Amazon Music app in Android and iOS app stores or visit amazon.com.au/primemusic.
Eligible customers who are not already Prime members can begin streaming Prime Music with a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime today, with Alexa in the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android, on all Echo devices, as well as on Mac, PC and on the Fire TV Stick Basic Edition.
