Amazon has launched its compact new ‘Echo Show 5’, competing with Lenovo’s Smart Clock for an identical Australian RRP ($129).
The Echo Show 5 boasts a 5.5-inch display screen, with HD camera and built-in lens shutter for added privacy.
The Lenovo Smart Clock integrates with Google Assistant voice commands, while Amazon’s Echo Show 5 calls upon Alexa.
The Echo Show 5 is available to pre-order from today, with shipping commencing June 26.
“With Echo Show 5, we’ve made it even easier and affordable for customers to add a smart display to every room of their house,” asserts Amazon Alexa Senior Vice President, Tom Taylor.
“The compact form factor is perfect for a bedside table or desk, plus it has a camera shutter for added peace of mind, and new Alexa privacy features for even more control.”
The device offers easy video streaming and music playback, triggered via voice control – e.g. “Alexa, play my feel good music.”
The affordable smart display allows users to control compatible smart home devices (e.g. smart lights, security cameras, baby monitors).
By setting up an ‘Alexa routine’, users can synchronise several tasks with one voice command. For example, turning on the bedroom lights and playing morning music with “Alexa, start my day.”
Taking on the likes of Facebook and Google, Amazon has added an extra privacy layer to its Alexa-enabled smart devices, allowing users to easily delete voice recordings via “Alexa, delete everything I said today.”
A new Alexa Privacy Hub offers users a single port of information regarding control over their Alexa devices.
