Reports state Amazon’s first wearable device will be a pair of ‘screenless’ smart glasses, integrated with Alexa functionality.
The device is said to appear like a regular pair of glasses, however, won’t have a screen or camera. Despite this, the word is Google Glass Founder, Babak Parviz, has been working on the product since joining Amazon in 2014.
With Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa built in, the smart glasses are tipped to not need earphones or regular speakers, instead, will utilise bone-conduction technology allowing users to hear Alexa’s voice.
Recent reports also reveal Amazon may be developing a home security camera, set to be separate from its Echo product suite (i.e notably different than Amazon’s Echo Look and Echo Show).
Some reports state, “one or both” of these products may be unveiled this year.
Fuel is added to the speculation given the regular Echo speak has been left largely unchanged since landing in 2014, and has been ‘out of stock’ on Amazon for some time – this may indicate a success is on the way.
