Android market applications have now hit 70,000 according to Google. The total is way short of the 225,000 applications available from the Apple Application Store.
According to AndroLib, the last official earning report from Google claimed close to 100,000 applications.
Electronista reported that the correction points to a more linear increase in new apps for the Android platform, marking a 40 per cent growth since April. If the inflated forecast proves accurate, the Android Market would have effectively doubled in the same period of time.
Google also said that 160,000 new activations are reported for Android devices every day. The number is impressive, although it does not mark an increase in the rate of activations since the last time Google disclosed the statistic.
Google has stopped sales of its Nexus One handset despite it going on sale via Vodafone last month in Australia.
