Samsung has begun to roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, stating other Galaxy devices “will soon follow”.As to when Marshmallow will land on the two flagship devices market-by-market, Samsung states the schedule for each market will be determined by market situation and carrier requirements.
In addition to the updates that will come with Marshmallow, Samsung has also announced a number of updates specific to the S6 edge.
The update sees Samsung providing an enhanced edge panel for the S6 edge, along with a number of new features, with users able to widen the panel to 550 pixels, enabling more content to be displayed.
Both the People and Apps edge panels have been updated, with users now able to add 10 apps instead of five, along with adding entire folders in addition to single apps.
A newly added Tasks edge panel provides shortcuts to often-used app features and tasks, while the new Quick tools, including a ruler, compass and customisable flashlight, has also been added in a separate panel.
Users will be able access these panels by customising the edge handle fixed tab that opens the edge panel, adjusting the place, size and transparency of the handle in the settings menu.
As for which other Galaxy devices are in line for Marshmallow, Samsung has yet to provide specific details on devices and time scales.
