LG announced that it aims to sell its new Google Android phone, the Optimus, to customers for $449. The company claims that its new smartphone will provide great value and great technology to the masses.

In a press conference held by the company yesterday, Brad Reed, Senior Category Marketing Manager, Mobile Communications, said that the Optimus is a smartphone that provides powerful features in a small package.
The LG Optimus (GT540) runs on Google’s Android, which according to reports, is beginning to gain market share. The handset can have up to seven customisable home screens, with a user also being able to personalise the user interface to include up to 10 categories.
In addition, DivX and Xvid videos can be played back on the device without separate encoding, while multimedia files are browsed via the 3D thumbnail gallery. As it runs on Android, the Optimus will provide users with over 50,000 downloadable apps and games and access to Googles online services. It also comes with a Social Networking (SN) feature that pushes Facebook and Twitter on the homescreen.
The LG Optimus is available in four colours including white, pink, black and silver. The phone includes a 1500mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1 capability and assisted GPS. A 2GB micro SD card is included in the sales package at launch and this is expandable to 32GB.
LG Optimus is available in Australia in July from local operators (Telstra, Optus & Vodafone) and major mobile phone retailers. LG is targeting an RRP at launch of $449.
