Apple’s App Store enjoyed a record-breaking July, setting new records for monthly billings and money paid to developers.Apple CEO Tim Cook has revealed the records via a tweet, stating that monthly billings along with money paid to developers were the highest ever last month.
In a second tweet, Cook revealed that developers have now earned over US$50 billion.
As to what brought about the record figures, it appears the release of Pokemon Go likely wielded a significant impact.
Towards the end of July, analytics company Sensor Tower estimated that Pokemon Go had been installed more than 75 million times globally across Apple and Google platforms.
Meanwhile, recently released Sensor Tower data shows that Pokemon Go has surpassed US$160 million in worldwide net revenue on the App Store and Google Play since its release last month.
Needham & Co had previously estimated that Apple could make billions in revenue from Pokemon Go.
