Apple has slashed the price of iPhone batteries ahead of schedule, following the tech giant’s recent admission that it slowed down older iPhones.
In a statement, Apple apologised and informed consumers it would be cutting the price of iPhone battery replacements, however, the tech has reportedly decided to offer the cost reduction earlier than planned:
“We expected to need more time to be ready, but we are happy to offer our customers the lower pricing right away”.
Via an internal memo, French tech blog iGeneration revealed that Apple loosened the consumer eligibility criteria for battery replacements, regardless of battery tests.
Apple informed consumers that the discount is available “for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced”.
The tech giant states that it will be releasing an iOS software update early next year to provide iPhone users more information about the health of their batteries.
Since admitting to the deliberate slowdown of older iPhones, Apple is facing a number of class action lawsuits. Some consumers have reportedly claimed they were instructed to purchase a new iPhone to alleviate the issue.
