SAN FRANCISCO – Apple has put on hold its plans to offer a live Internet-based television service in the USA, instead focusing on being a platform for media companies that sell directly to customers through its App Store. While Apple isn’t giving up entirely on launching a live-TV service, its
plan to sell a package of 14 or so channels for US$30-40 a month has been
mothballed.

In the meantime, Apple said it will open the App Store for outside TV
developers to sell to customers.
