Apple is set to give Nintendo the two finger salute by holding their March 2, iPad 2 launch event right next door to a major gaming Conference and at the same time that Nintendo’s CEO is presenting a major keynote.Apple, who have nothing but disdain for competitors, including Microsoft, who saved the company from going bankrupt in 1997 when the software company handed Apple boss Steve Jobs a cheque for $125M to use MAC Office software, plans to launch the iPad 2 at the same time as Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata, Nintendo chief executive, delivers the main keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
Even the Apple invitation to their March 2 event has a teasing image of the top corner of an iPad and a cheeky map pointing out that the Yerba Buena Centre is adjacent to the Moscone Centre, where Mr Iwata will be speaking at around the same time.
In 2007 Apple unveiled their new iPhone in 2007, on the same day that competitors were announcing new products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Several gaming industry executives will be attending the Apple event according to sources as Apple will demonstrate gaming on the new iPad.
Covering both events at the same time could prove a challenge for the media, but it seems certain that the iPad 2, even if it only features minor hardware improvements such as the addition of a camera and a lighter body, is likely to be the device grabbing most of the headlines.
