Apple Australia is seeking to crack down on online retailers that are continuing to peddle Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 to Australian customers, despite the recent Federal Court injunction barring its sale Down Under pending a full patent infringement case to be heard next year.
Representatives of leading e-tailer Mobicity.com.au – which has been offering the Galaxy Tab at $829 – have confirmed receiving a letter from Apple’s lawyers requesting it to comply with the injunction.
Despite the operation’s “.au” address, they are claiming Mobicity is Hong Kong-owned and operated, and therefore not bound by the Australian ruling.
Rival Australian online electronics store Dmavo, which has also been selling the Tab device told Australian IT that it expected Apple to start turning up the legal heat on its operation, but had not yet been contacted.
Another major Australian online store that operates some sales via a Hong Kong operation, Ruslan Kogan’s Kogan Technologies, recently withdrew the Galaxy Tab after receiving a letter from Apple’s legal team. It still sells imported Apple iPads.
