A Melbourne-based online retail store has been advertising 16GB Apple iPads for delivery in Australia within seven days, even though the iPad is not due for Australian release until late April.
The 1saleaday.com.au operation yesterday offered a 16GB iPad for A$799, under a deal which was to expire at midnight. The site advertises “new deals at midnight every day”.
The iPads were sourced from the US. Simon Mochkin, director of 1saleaday, told trade mag CRN that the iPads would be delivered to the customer within seven days.
“We got access to a certain amount of units,” he said. “I have a wholesaler in the US and I have units on the way to me.”
The deal was not approved by Apple Australia, which has not yet announced a release date or local pricing on the iPad. A number of pundits have been predicting April 24 as the most likely date. The price is expected to be well under $799 most guesses are in the $649-699 range.
