Following several consumer complaints in Australia, Apple has finally released a firmware update for all 27″ iMacs. The fix will eliminate corruption to the display screens, such as flickering and ghosting.
Apple said that the firmware Update applies to ATI Radeon 4670 and 4850 graphics cards found in the new 27″ iMacs.
Users worldwide have reported several issues with the new Apple product, including cracked screens, a yellow tint in part of the display, and irritating flickers.
One forum addressing the issue had 1500 messages and a view count of over 244,000, making it the most-read of those on the iMac forum.
An Apple post says, “If your screen remains black after applying the updater or if you continue to experience image corruption or display flickering after successfully completing this update, contact AppleCare or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.”
The firmware update can be downloaded from Apple’s site, or retrieved using Software Update on a 27″ iMac equipped with one of the two ATI graphics cards.
