SYDNEY – Australian users of Apple’s new iOS 6 mobile operating system from next month will get access to the turn-by-turn navigation feature in the company’s new Maps application, Apple has confirmed.
Apple has dumped Google Maps from iOS 6 in favour of its own recently developed mapping app.
Australia was originally left off the list of countries in which the turn-by-turn navigation feature would be available, but Apple has since updated its iOS 6 features list with an October availability listing for Down Under.
In addition to Australia, the turn-by-turn navigation feature will be available in Brunei, Egypt, Macau, Malaysia, Morocco, South Africa, Taiwan and Thailand from next month
However Apple says the ability to display 3D buildings in navigation mode – to be featured in the USA – along with business reviews and photos will not at this stage be available to Australian users of Maps.
