Apple it appears has nobbled the Palm Pre mobile phone from being able to download music and movies from the iTunes store.
Set to be released in Australia shortly the Palm Pre has been described as the closest phone yet to the highly popular iPhone.
However, a small download that I got yesterday on my iTunes browser appears to have been deliberately distributed by Apple to prevent the Palm Pre from accessing the iTunes web site.
In a statement released by Apple this morning a Company spokesperson, Natalie Kerris said “iTunes 8.2.1 is a free software update that provides a number of important bug fixes,” It also disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.”
The move by Apple is not surprising, as the two Companies have been taking digs at each other over such things as touch screen technology and download capability. It is also tipped that Palm with launch an update to fix the problem.
However all is not lost, after SmartHouse found an application called “DoubleTwist” which allows phone users to manage content from multiple sources including iTunes.
