Apple, who are looking to expand their retail operations in Australia, has picked the former head of UK retail chain Dixon’s to run their global retail operation.John Browett, who started the year as CEO of Dixons Retail, will join Apple in April as a senior vice president in charge of retail
Browett 48, who joined Dixon’s in 2007, will report to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Browett succeeds Ron Johnson, who left Apple to run J.C. Penney Co. in November. Mr. Johnson was credited with creating Apple’s highly successful retail strategy, building a network of more than 300 stores known for their tasteful, minimalist design.
Dixon’s, which is a lot like JB hi Fi, sells an array of discount electronics from computers, Apple products to white goods.
The Wall Street Journal said that while Apple’s fortunes have risen via their own retail stores, sales at Dixons have slipped during the past 12 months, falling by 5% in the 12 weeks ended Jan. 7.
Meanwhile Apple’s, rose 73% to $46.3 billion in its quarter ended in December.
In a statement, Tim Cook said Browett shared Apple’s commitment to customer service. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring his incredible retail experience to Apple,” he said.
