Apple is planning to create a second Apple Store in central Sydney, just a few blocks from the current popular high-profile store in central George Street. (It also has three suburban stores, in Chatswood, Bondi and Castle Hill).
Plans are well advanced for the new storein the Broadway Shopping Centre built around the heritage-listed Grace Bros Broadway site, close to the University of Sydney and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). It’s also next door to an existing Apple dealer, Next Byte.
The news was broken by Web site ifoAppleStore.com, which tracks Apple Store construction worldwide, and which obtained copies of Apple’s permit application lodged with the Sydney City Council.
This shows Apple is seeking to transform an area currently occupied by four retail spaces on the third storey of the complex, otherwise dominated by a Target store.
The final space will provide a 75ft wide storefront and 50ft deep store, with a total of 5360 sq. ft, and will involve making structural changes to the retail centre’s roof.
