In preparation for its AI reveal at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple will reportedly launch a new OLED iPad Pro on May 7th.
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, there is “a strong possibility” this tablet will come with an M4 chipset, and be Apple’s “first truly AI-powered device.”
Both upcoming Pro model tablets are tipped to get an OLED upgrade, as well as some new accessories.
Gurman has referred to the upcoming iPad Pro as the most significant redesign since 2018.
MacRumors leaked CAD images in February that indicated the iPad Pro would be slimmer with rounded edges.
Gurman revealed the company could use the event to explain “its AI chip strategy without distraction,” to focus on presenting other M4-powered devices and revealing how they will use the AI features expected to be present in the upcoming iPadOS 18 and iOS 18 updates.
These features could include on-device Apple-developed features and integrated chatbots from Google or OpenAI.
These M4-powered devices tipped to be released also include M4 MacBooks. It’s unclear how many variants could be unveiled at WWDC, but it’s reported it could include iMacs, MacBook Pros, Mac Minis, MacBook Airs, a Mac Studio, and a Mac Pro.
The M4 chipset will reportedly come in three variants, an entry-level, a medium-level, and high-level. It’s unclear what these variants will be called.
The chip is expected to highlight AI capabilities, and have support for up to a half-terabyte of memory.
ChannelNews recently covered that Apple and OpenAI are in talks to create a chatbot for upcoming Apple devices. There’s also a chance Apple will incorporate Google’s Gemini AI into its devices.
One accessory, the Apple Pencil, is expected to come with haptic feedback, according to Gurman.
While Gurman himself doesn’t go into detail about the haptic feedback or other features expected for the Apple Pencil, previous leaks have suggested a simulated texture feature while drawing, a new squeeze gesture, and magnetic tips.
ChannelNews has previously covered the upcoming Apple Pencil and the features it’s tipped to come with.
