Against all odds and common business sense, it looks like Apple will indeed have its wireless AirPod headphones on store shelves by Christmas. The company today put out a press blast saying the wireless earbuds
are “Available today from Apple.com and will start delivering to
customers and arriving at Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and
select carriers next week.”
“AirPods will be shipping in limited quantities at launch and
customers are encouraged to check online for updates on availability and
estimated delivery dates. Stores will receive regular AirPod
shipments.”
First announced alongside the iPhone 7 back in September, the
wireless earbuds were hit by unexpected and unexplained delays that some
speculated related to Apple engineers having trouble in getting both
earphones to play music in synchronicity.
The delays saw Apple face enormous criticism following the emphasis
that their iPhone 7 reveal and marketing has placed the removal of the
headphone jack.
Further speculation suggested the new AirPods, having missed the
Black Friday sales period, will likely be rolled out alongside Apple’s
next generation of iPads.
Now, with Christmas less than two weeks away, the question becomes
whether or not Apple can adequately supply the pre-Christmas rush of
customers who try to pick up the company’s new headphones.
The wireless ear buds are available now for an RRP of $230 in Australia.
