Apple is releasing a number of new features for its Apple TV 4K through the new tvOS 12, including the ability to support Dolby Atmos audio.
Apple TV 4K already supports Dolby Vision and according to the company will be the only streaming player to be both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos certified.
Apple says by spring, ‘iTunes will be home to the largest collection of Dolby Atmos-supported movies in the world, and these titles will also include Dolby Atmos audio for free’.
With tvOS 12, Apple has simplified its authentication process with zero sign-on. It works by Apple TV detecting the user’s broadband network and automatically signs them in to all the supported apps they receive through their subscription.
Apple is collaborating with the International Space Station National Lab and the Centre for the Advancement of Science in Space updating its screensavers showing aerial shots from space. Users can also swipe to see where the shots came from.
Other updates to tvOS 12 include AutoFill passwords from iPhone or iPads to the Apple TV for easy sign in. The Apple TV remove will be added to the control centre for iPhone and iPad.
The new tvOS will be available in spring later this year.
