After four weeks of courtroom wrangling between Apple and Samsung, the fate of the multibillion-dollar question of patent rights is in the hands of an eight-member Silicon Valley jury.
Lawyers for the feuding companies yesterday spent four hours giving the jury competing visions of what had unfolded during the trial.
Apple’s legal team was eager to cast Samsung as a desperate copier of iPhone technology, while the Samsung team portrayed Apple as a waning force seeking a big payout to squelch competition, according to a San Jose Mercury News report.
Harold McElhinny, Apple’s lead attorney, urged the jury to order Samsung to pay as much as $2.2 billion in damages for violating the patents on five iPhone and iPad software features, such as slide-to-unlock and auto-word correct
The jury today will return to the Federal Court in San Jose to resume deliberations.
