Apple has unveiled its first-ever pair of over-ear headphones, named the AirPods Max, which will be priced at $899 in Australia.
After months of rumours – and among incorrect reports the headphones would be named AirPods Studio – Apple revealed on Wednesday it would be selling a wireless headset product with active noise cancellation (ANC) and built-in Siri capabilities.
The AirPods Max will feature a 40-mm Apple-designed dynamic driver which provides rich, deep bass and clear high-frequency extension so every note can be heard, Apple says.
They are also equipped with an Apple-designed H1 chip in each ear cup, a custom acoustic design and computational audio to deliver the highest quality listening experience.
Other features on the AirPods Max include Adaptive EQ, Transparency Mode, Spatial Audio and up to 20 hours of playback on a single charge.
It also allows automatic Bluetooth switching between other Apple products such as iPads and Macs. For example, when playing music on Mac, users can easily take a call on iPhone and AirPods Max will automatically switch over.
The AirPods Max come with a soft, slim Smart Case that puts AirPods Max in an ultralow power state that helps to preserve battery charge when not in use.
However many internet users have already pointed out the carry case seems to resemble a bra or a women’s purse.
AirPods Max are available to order starting today for $899 (AUD) from apple.com and in the Apple Store app in the US and more than 25 other countries and regions. AirPods Max will begin shipping on Tuesday, December 15.
