Android tab for under $200? Not bad, Asus.
Forget the iPad mini, Asus has released a budget $199 7 incher MeMO Pad on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) which it says is for ‘work and play’.
7″ tabs have come down in price of late but this is still one of the cheapest we’ve seen.
The Asus MeMO Pad has a multi-touch LED-backlit display 1024 x 600 (170 pixels-per-inch), 140-degree wide viewing angle, runs a 1GHz VIA WM8950 processor and Mali-400 GPU for smooth web browsing.
It also has WiFi, a 1MP rear camera with 720p HD video capture and 1GB RAM.
Memo (pronounced “meemo”) which stands for “My Mobile” has 350-nit brightness, so the portable tab weighing 370g, is good to use outdoors with a 7 hour battery life.
The 7″ MeMO Pad has high-quality sound with ASUS SonicMaster audio and MaxxAudio so good for watching video, YouTube and listening to tunes.
ASUS MeMO Pad has up to 16GB of internal storage, and can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot, and 5GB free ASUS WebStorage.
Pre-installed applications including SuperNote Lite, BuddyBuzz, ASUS WebStorage, ASUS Studio and WebStorage Office.
It comes in three funky colours – Sugar White, Titanium Grey and Cherry Pink and a non-slip diamond-pattern finish.
Selling for $199, MeMo is available in early March from JB HiFi, Dick Smith, Bing Lee & Leading Edge and ASUS resellers.
Asus also announced a Fonepad smartphone and tablet this week, although no word if it will hit Oz yet
