Apple has launched an investigation into the safety of its new iPhone 7 after a Sydney surfer reported his phone caught alight causing damage to his car.
Mat Jones said he left his phone underneath clothes in his car while he undertook a surfing lesson. He returned to find the interior of his car filled with smoke and some items burned to a crisp.
“Ash was just coming from inside the pants [and] once you unwrapped the pants the phone was just melting inside of it” Jones told Seven News.
Apple contacted Channel News to clarify that their investigation is focused on the single Sydney-based ident and not into the possibility of any broader defect with the product.
