Fans of Australian Idol will have another means of catching the program, with Telstra broadcasting the show live on its Next G and 3G mobile phones, in what the company claims is a world first.
Telstra says this is the first time any of the Idol programs around the world have been screened live on mobile phones.
The service launches on Sunday 26 August at 7:25pm, via the BigPond mobile menu, Idol Insider will start five minutes before and end five minutes after each episode of Australian Idol. When Channel Ten cuts to the ad breaks, phone viewers will see behind the scenes footage and bloopers live.
Telstra says offering the show via its Next G network, which covers 98.8 percent of the Australian population, means that those without a TV or not near a TV can still watch the program.
The Idol Live TV Pack costs $2 a week and in addition to live screening of the show to your mobile, includes videos on demand of show highlights and ringtones, and wallpapers. The content is also available for purchase on bigpond.com.
Comedian Cal Wilson will be hosting the show. “”I’m really excited to be hosting this amazing show. It’s a world-first initiative that I am thrilled to be a part of. I think they chose me to do the job because I’m quite short – I can fit into a mobile!”
