Today, HTC Vive™ announced a $300 price drop for its Vive product, claimed to be “the best virtual reality system” globally. The item will now retail for $999.
Vive has won hundreds of technology and industry awards globally, and is claimed to be the only “first-of-its-kind” virtual reality product which offers room-scale VR “out of a box”. The base Vive package comes all-inclusive, with all items needed to create room-scale VR quickly.
HTC says the price drop was driven by a desire to increase the system’s market reach, by making it more accessible to the mass market globally.
HTC Chairwoman, Cher Wang says, “Our goal at Vive has always been to offer the best and most advanced VR system and drive mass market adoption for VR across the globe”.
“We’re continuing to deliver on that commitment with this new price for Vive, making VR more accessible to a broader audience and driving the entire VR industry forward. Vive’s game-changing technology, best-in-class content and unmatched global partners are fulfilling the promise of VR like never before. With highly anticipated titles and the upcoming launch of Vive Tracker, there has never been a better time to embrace Vive, and enjoy the most immersive VR experience available”.
A recent report from UBM states that “more developers are building experiences for Vive than ever before”. Vive was also selected as developers’ top target when creating content.
Vive is reportedly built with the leading VR hardware in the market and is backed by Vive X a $100 million accelerator for VR related tech-startups, plus Viveport, a global app store, and platform for virtual reality.
