A survey conducted by FreeTV Australia has revealed that blockbuster shows and new digital channels are driving huge audiences for Free TV in 2010.According to FreeTV, shows like The Pacific, Australia’s Got Talent, Top Gear, Underbelly, NCIS and Masterchef have all delivered massive combined average consolidated audiences of more than 2 million viewers, with more than 13.2 million people tuning into Free TV every day.
“Free TV has also dominated share of viewing over the period, accounting for a 66 per cent share of nightly viewing in metro markets and a 62 per cent share of nightly viewing in regional markets,” said a FreeTV spokesperson.
Since launching last year, Free TV’s digital multi-channels have quickly attracted significant audience share. According to OzTAM, Channel 7 had 21.2 per cent, Nine had 20.6 per cent, Ten had 15.8 per cent, GO! had 2.8 per cent, 7Two had 2.6 per cent, and One had 0.9 per cent share of viewers.
FreeTV also found that more and more viewers are using PVRs as it gives them “more opportunities to watch more of their favourite programming, when they want to watch it”.
“The top time-shifted programs have added incremental audiences of up to 180,000 viewers, once playback viewing is taken into account,” said the company.
