Big W’s annual Toy Mania is kicking off today, offering deals on over 700 toys from Barbie, Nerf, Hot Wheels, LEGO, Fisher Price, and more.
With some COVID-19 restrictions still in place, toy sales are expected to surge this year. According to Big W’s Toy Mania Report, 55% of Australian parents have been spending more time playing with their children since COVID-19 lockdowns commenced.
In particular, educational toys are tipped to be more popular this year. As much as 83% of parents said they were using toys for learning and development purposes during the increased time spent at home together. These toys may include smart learning watches, Wi-Fi tablets designed for kids.
Since COVID-19 lockdowns Big W has witnessed a 225% increase in kids’ jigsaw puzzle sales. In addition, LEGO has topped the best-sellers list in every state for the past 12 months.
Also in light of COVID-19, Big W is forecasting a 30% increase in online purchases compared to last year’s Toy Mania event. Due to the high number of shoppers, many online customers trying to access the online sale today have had to queue in the virtual ‘Big W Waiting Lounge’.
At the moment Toy Mania sales are available online only, but they will be rolled out in store on 18th June, and will last until 15th July.
