Research In Motion has introduced its newest addition to the Bold series in Australia, BlackBerry Bold 9780, which is the first smartphone in the Bold series to run on the new BlackBerry 6 operating system.

Featuring an iconic BlackBerry smartphone design and an easy-to-use keyboard and optical trackpad, the BlackBerry Bold 9780 is claimed to be packed with advanced communications and multimedia features. 


Running on the new Blackberry 6 OS, it offers expanded messaging capabilities that simplifies social networking and RSS feeds and provides easy setup and access to various social networking sites and Instant Messaging programs. In addition, it comes with a combined 8 GB of media storage out-of-the-box and includes a microSD/SDHC memory card slot.

The Blackberry 6 OS also offers a new browser that is able to render HTML web pages (as well as HTML email) quickly. It claims to offer features like tabs for accessing multiple sites simultaneously, pinch to zoom and a zoom feature.

Users will benefit from a wide range of enhancements including a new user interface, rich WebKit-based browser, broadly improved communications and multimedia capabilities, an incredibly useful universal search feature and a high quality 5MP camera. 

The compact and stylish Bold 9780 smartphone supports 3G networks around the world, as well as Wi-Fi, and includes GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging. 

Its 5MP camera includes continuous auto focus, scene modes, image stabilisation, flash and video recording. The Bold 9780 also includes 512 MB Flash memory and an expandable memory card slot that supports up to 32 GB of additional storage.
