According to Vodafone, Australia’s love affair with BlackBerry smartphones grew 74 per cent last year and the company predicts the Australian mobile email market will more than double over the next 12 months.

Helen Tuffy, Head of Consumer Data at Vodafone Australia says that “BlackBerry was once the workhorse of the pinstripe suit brigade, but look at how the handset has developed and matured; it’s gone from bulky designs to smooth, slim and full of tricks with gunmetal, chrome and titanium-look finishes. BlackBerry is now very sexy.”
“BlackBerry is transcending its traditional business market and is now finding mass appeal and it is hitting the consumer lifestyle niche thanks to device and price”, added Tuffy.
The question is though, whether the heat levels will be ramped up once Vodafone release the iPhone later this year. As it is well known, the iPhone, and BlackBerry now compete in the same consumer sandpit and when it comes to sleek, suave and steamy, the iPhone is certainly in the Angelina Jolie category.
Sadly some of Apple’s muteness has rubbed off onto Vodafone, as late this afternoon, the company did not wish to comment on anything about the iPhone or its impending release.
