The BlackBerry Pearl smartphone has been unveiled in Australia, and manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) claims it is one of the world’s tiniest smartphones to date.
The Pearl measures just 107mm x 50 mm x 14.5mm and weighs in at just under 90 grams. However within its tiny form factor it packs a wealth of functions.
It is a multimedia powerhouse and includes a 1.3 megapixel camera with three zoom levels (up to 5x zoom). Images can be instantly shared by the phone’s email. MMS or messenger function.
The multimedia player supports MP3 and AAC files as well as MPEG4 and H.263 video. There is a 64MB built-in Flash memory for storing multimedia content.
There is also voice recognition for voice activated dialing as well as support for smart dialling, conference calling, speed dialling and call forwarding.
Other outstanding features include support for up to 10 personal and corporate email accounts, including most popular ISP email accounts; and a high-performance Web browser.
