Research In Motion has announced its new Blackberry Bold phone that is smaller and lighter than its predecessor.

Research In Motion’s Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, Adele Beachley said, “The original BlackBerry Bold was a great achievement and a significant success for RIM in the Australian and New Zealand market. We are now pleased to be bringing the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 to Australia and New Zealand and we believe that customers will be even more impressed with its new and exciting features, exceptional performance and light and optimised design.”
Other features of the BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone include:

- Built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) with support for Wi-Fi calling
- 3.2-megapixel camera
- Built-in GPS

- 3.5 mm stereo headset jack
- microSD/SDHD memory card slot (up to 16GB)
- 256 MB of Flash memory
- Bluetooth (2.1)
- Removable, rechargeable 1500 mAhr battery
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone is expected to be available in Australia and New Zealand later this month.
