Photos of the smartphone to save BlackBerry have been leaked, and even we have to admit it’s a good looking brute. The leaked BlackBerry smartphone is believed to be part of BlackBerry’s L-series. As the screen was inactive in the photos, there are no glimpses of the new BlackBerry 10 OS.

Compared to smartphones from Samsung, Apple, HTC, Motorola, and Sony, BlackBerry’s current range is technologically impotent. Their flagships are subtle upgrades of the Bold 9700; a mobile launched almost 3 years ago.
BlackBerry has been working on its revised operating system for over two years. The company claims the upgrades are significant enough to see them through the next decade.
According to All things D, mobile carriers have expressed interest in BlackBerry’s new platform, giving the ailing company hope yet.
“We have been surprised by the strongly positive initial feedback on BB10 from carriers,” Piper Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek wrote in a recent note to clients. “We are a bit puzzled as we expected a more muted response given BB10 is two years late and RIM’s market share has plunged from 20% to 5%.”

Photos of the L Series appeared on a Vietnamese forum from user uit.edu. “Today I was lucky to get it,” wrote the user, who suggests it will be revealed on the 30th of January. The following photos have been sourced from him.

The QWERTY keyboards familiar to BlackBerry smartphones have been replaced with a versatile touchscreen. The L Series’ shape is reminiscent of the iPhone 5, albeit it appears to be better dressed.

Its back is patterned, situates a camera with a (presumably) single OLED flash in its top left, but BlackBerry’s logo steals the thunder.

Unlike many smartphones currently on the market, the BlackBerry smartphone has a removable back. According to PCMag, an NFC antenna is situated under its rear casing, as does a microsim and MicroSD memory card slot.

Another impressive additive is a MicroHDMI port, situated along its side, right next to a generic microUSB charging port.

Hate them or love them, BlackBerrys have always advocated (and delivered) long lasting batteries. A photo of the L series battery reveals it has an 1,800mAh capacity. This is a surprise as it’s smaller than the one featured in Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and LG’s upcoming Optimus G.
From what we know so far–and we don’t know enough about the software, yet–it appears to be a pretty decent offering.
