An ECKey device means your car door will open automatically when you walk up to it. |
ECKey works by using a patent-pending proximity meter, which works on any Bluetooth device and means you don’t have to press any buttons to unlock a gate, door or other electronic device.
A user installs the Bluetooth unit next to the electronic lock, you register your phone and then the phone will automatically unattach any locks within the immediate vicinity that have the device attached. Users do not have to take the phone out of their pocket for the system to work.
Developer Dr Nick Willis believes you can even do away with electronic house keys, remote controls or proximity cards.
Other features include:
- It works with any Bluetooth device with no software installation necessary.
- Lock and phone remain invisible with 128-bit encryption
- Passive authenticated locking
- 1-30m range
- One-off registration to utilise device
- Can be used standalone or integrated
- Two factor authentication with PIN code
The developers say its use can be expanded to include tolling for cars/car parks, hotels, gates, sports clubs, home security systems, building access systems, office swipe cars and padlocks.
