The Amazon Echo Spot, the smallest smart speaker in the range with a display screen and camera is launching in Australia next week.

The Echo Spot has the same features of the Echo and Echo Dot but with added capabilities from the display and camera. Users can watch news flashes from Fox Sport or ABC News, video call or voice call friends and view shopping or to-do lists

However, have had privacy concerns with the camera in the Echo Spot as Amazon is keen for its users to place the device in the bedroom. A few years ago, UK security expert Mark Barnes hacked into Amazon devices and turned them into live microphones.

Amazon says the Echo Spot features second generation far-field technology with four microphones, acoustic beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation so it can hear you from across the room—even while music is playing. If you have more than one Echo, Alexa responds from the Echo you’re closest to with ESP (Echo Spatial Perception).

The Echo and Echo Dot have been available in Australia since February.

The Echo Spot comes in black and white. It is available for pre-order now and it will be officially released on April 26 with the price tag of $199.

It can also be purchased at select retailers including Myer, JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.
