According to Android Central, the Atrix 4G sold by AT&T is to be pulled from the shelves in the US, with a “new handset coming soon.”
The move has been attributed to an “inventory pullback” meaning Moto are either replacing Atrix with a new stockpile or else replacing the model altogether, although there has been no official word as to what this might be.
With its Nvidia Tegra 2 1Ghz dual core processor, Atrix was one of the fastest handsets sold in Australia, when it was released here in May last.
It also boasted other ‘firsts’ for mobiles including qHD screen and 24- bit colour for top notch graphics.
However, many rivals including newly released HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S II stole its ‘fastest’ crown with 1.2 Ghz processor and running updated Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Atrix ran Froyo 2.2, although looks set to upgrade to Android 2.3 here soon.
The question is how will Motorola top Atrix.
One possible contender is Moto’s soon to be released 4.3″ Droid Bionic, with a dual core 1GHz processor, QHD screen, Adobe Flash Player and HTML5, first showcased at CES in January.
This was due for release first in the US in Q2, and although has yet to rear its head, is expected very soon.
