As it mulls over Dick Smith’s future, Woolworth are putting all its eggs into Big W discounted basket with launch of new shopping app. The announcement comes as the retail giant said earlier this week it may offload Dick Smith electronics, due to underperformance.The new app allow customers compare prices while browsing with rivals stores on their iPhone and iPad, showing the discounter are “lowest price champions” Big W said in a statement.

Big W, which flogs everything from fold-up chairs to Pantene shampoo, which has stepped up its electronics offering and is now selling Samsung LCD TV’s, Galaxy S smartphones, Amazon Kindle and even Apple iPods, and is fast becoming the new Dick Smith.

“BIG W has again showed that we are Australia’s lowest price champions by offering customers a new tool to check prices with the launch of the new BIG W App for iPhone and iPad,” Big W said in a statement.
“Customers will be able to scan the barcode of any product and if we stock it, the BIG W price will be displayed. Customers will be able to see for themselves that BIG W has Australia’s lowest prices.
The app also lets shoppers browse through BIG W catalogues and a store locator with opening hours and is an add on to Big W online store.
“We are so confident that you won’t find any stocked item for less anywhere else that we want our customers to check for themselves with the BIG W App price scanner,” said Julie Coates, BIG W Director.
