Canon DSLR Goes For Full HD Recording

Canon has today launched an entry-level DSLR camera that can shoot videos in Full HD.

The Canon EOS 500D sports a 15-megapixel camera sensor, features Live View shooting, and can capture still photos and movies in Full HD quality or standard TV quality (VGA). It also features live Face Detection mode in Live View shooting that distinguishes human faces in each shot and adjusting the focus and exposure accordingly.

Users can then view their shots on the unit’s 3-inch screen which incorporates an anti-reflection and anti-smudging coating.

Canon Australia’s Brand Manager for EOS, Chris Macleod said, “The EOS 500D boasts a Canon first for entry-level DSLR cameras with the inclusion of Full High Definition movie recording, which allows users to get creative and expand their shooting capabilities. This high-quality, feature-packed DSLR is very easy to use and promises to make DSLR photography fun for first-time users, those looking to upgrade and those looking to take their creativity to whole new level.”

Canon has also launched a new compact and lightweight speedlite for entry-level users who want to get more creative with their photography.

Replacing the 220EX, the 270EX speedlite features a new bounce-flash capability to enable natural flash photography and can be used on all EOS DSLR cameras as well as some high-end compact cameras.

The 270EX speedlite (RRP $TBC) will be available from May through Canon dealers nationally.

The EOS 500D body will be available in Body Only, Single IS Kit (with EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS), Twin IS kit (with EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS), Enthusiast Kit (with EF-17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM) and Premium kit (with EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS).
