Since hitting the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in 2002, The Vines have had a lot to live up to, especially after being compared to the likes of The White Stripes and The Strokes and assorted other international peers. After line up changes and taking some shots from the media, you could argue they are trying to reinvent themselves here. Does it work? Well, yes and no. Songs like He’s A Rocker, Scream and Jamola prove that they were once contenders and could still fly high if they keep their wits about them, while the likes of A Girl I Knew reinforces why some fans started to tune out.
However, when all is said and done, it is an improvement on their last outing, and it could possibly lead to them to finally fulfilling their true potential. Here’s hoping this album provides the fuel for them to keep going.
