Sony has used this year’s CES to unveil an array of TVs, speakers, headphones, hi-fi systems and home audio systems including a new OLED and LCD 4K HDR TV and a world first the 3.1ch Dolby Atmos sound bar.
With its display unveiling, Sony will be updating and expanding its 4K HDR range. Sony says the new range is designed to deliver enhanced contrast, colour and clarity. The A8F OLED and X9000F LCD series are the newest 4K HDR.
Sony says the new A8F series inherits it’s 4K HDR picture processor-X1 Extreme, and the Acoustic Surface technology to give high quality picture and sound.
Sony has also expanded the LCD screen TV line-up to meet the increasing consumer demands for a wider variety of large screen premium 4K HDR televisions. The new X9000F series, equipped with the X1 Extreme processor, will be available in 75’’, 65’’ and 55’’.
Sony has released a range of new sports headphones the WF-SP700N, WI-SP600N and WI-SP500. These noise cancelling headphones will be optimised for Google Assistant after installing an update. These headphones for the first time will have digital noise cancelling with a splash proof feature. These headphones have a battery life of three hours and come in four colours.
Adding to its headphone collection, Sony have unveiled the MDR-1AM2 following from the MDR-1A. These headphones are compatible with frequencies up to 100kHz, via a newly developed 40mm HD driver unit. The MDR-1AM2s feature a Fibonacci-patterned grill to support ultra-high frequency sounds as well as a silver-coated OFC (oxygen free copper) cable for less transmission signal loss. A final benefit is the supplied 4.4mm balanced cable for great stereo separation.
Sony is showcasing a new Bluetooth speaker, the SRS-XB41, SRS-XB31 and SRS-XB21 EXTRA BASSTM wireless speakers. Sony says these speakers are designed to deliver bass matching bass heavy music. It also features Live Sound mode where the sound spreads both vertically and horizontally giving listeners an immersive experience due to the new Digital Signal Processor (DSP).
The speakers are both waterproof and dustproof boasting a battery that lasts 24 hours. With wireless chain you can connect 100 speakers together.
Sony will also be releasing a mid-range smartphone, the Xperia XA2 with a 23MP main camera and 8MP front facing camera with 120 degrees of view. Sony has released two other smartphones in the Xperia range but unfortunately they will not be coming down under.
The Xperia XA2 has full HD 1080p resolution with 5.2″ powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630. It also has 3GB of RAM and 32GB eMMC internal memory with microSDXC support (up to 256GB).
Sony has not said when the device will be available for purchase in Australia.
Sony has released five new high power home audio systems the MHC-V41D, MHC-V71D, MHC-M40D, MHC-M60D and the MHC-M80D; built for home entertainment. Sony says there are two new options of the all-in-one vertical style; MHC-V71D and MHC-V41D and 3-box models; MHC-M80D, MHC-M60D, MHC-M40D. These feature 360 degrees party lights, a guitar imput, controls allowing the controls to be used as a DJ deck and the new TAIKO mode allows you to use the one-box vertical system like a drum.
With its soundbar range, Sony has released what it says is the world’s first virtual Dolby Atmos supported sound bars, the HT-Z9FR, which comes with a pair of rear speakers, and the HT-X9000F, designed to offer a connected and compelling listening experience.
The premium HT-Z9FR Sound Bar with Dolby Atmos/DTS:X has been developed through Sony’s virtual technology, brings a new level of impressive cinematic-audio to any home entertainment set up. The new Vertical Surround Engine from Sony provides a virtual three-dimensional surround sound experience, without the need for ceiling reflection or up-firing speakers.
Sony has released a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player the UBP-X700, bringing the cinema to the lounge room. It supports both HDR formats – HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Sony says the UBP-X700 produces a much wider range of colour, contrast and brightness making the picture much closer to what you see in real life.
Sony is extending its home theatre selection with the new AV Receiver, the STR-DH790, which supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X with 5.1.2 surround sound. The SS-CSE Dolby Atmos enabled speakers providing home theatres with a three dimensional sound experience. The optimal engagement of sound will place any cinema viewer in the centre of the action by creating a full audio atmosphere.
