Qualcomm has announced it’s forecasting over thirty 5G-enabled devices to launch this year, revealed during its keynote at CES 2019.
The hardware giant expects the majority of devices to be smartphones – a spokesperson claims its etched deals with the majority of phone OEMs this year.
“We believe that virtually all 5G mobile devices launched in 2019 will be built on Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G solutions,” states Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm Incorporated President.
“5G will pave the way for next-generation immersive experiences, including near-instant access to cloud services, multiplayer VR gaming, shopping with AR, and real-time video collaboration”
“The world is ready for the 5G smartphone premium experience and Qualcomm Technologies, along with our OEM, operator and infrastructure partners, will be first delivering those experiences in 2019.”
As previously reported, Samsung is tipped to incorporate a Qualcomm modem for its United States 5G smartphones, citing suitability with the 2.5GHz spectrum.
Some other manufacturers will reportedly incorporate 5G components from the likes of Intel.
Whilst touting 2019 as the “year of 5G”, Qualcomm also showcased its cellular vehicle-to-anything (C-V2X) communication chips at CES.
Aimed to enhance vehicle safety, Ford has announced it will incorporate the hardware in 2022.
The news comes as Telstra reveals its etched exclusivity for several 5G smartphones in the first half of the year.
Whilst manufacturer names are yet to be revealed, CEO Andy Penn claims exclusivity includes some of the “world’s biggest brands.”
